For the most part showrunner Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, Dan For Mayor) and creator Jon Hurwitz (Harold & Kumar) signed who they had envisioned for the show. The cast is primarily newcomers and fresh faces to American network audiences, with one noteable exception.
Ali Mukaddam is in his mid 20's but plays our slacker hero of the show "Acasio" who is in his early 20's and just kind of drifting along doing his best to act like he doesn't care about anything at all. Ali is known to Canadians for his role as Ray/Pronto in the youth orientated "Radio Free Roscoe".
Joining Ali is fellow Canadian breakthrough actor Jonas Chernick who is leaving a role in Canadian drama "The Border". Ironically the native of Winnipeg Canada's character "Slade" was last seen accepting an offer to leave his job in the Border to work for the NSA in the United States. Sometimes life immitates art. Jonas plays "Sheik" the wisecracking junior manager of the grocery store who is stuck doing the evening shift with the assorted other screwballs in the West Hollywood grocer.
The cast is rounded out with;
Tara Westwood as "Vera", a young actress getting her first break. Her older brother was well known as a kicker in the Canadian Football League.
Omar Khan as "Bob" the arrogant heel first assistant manager who dreams of running his own store. Omar had quit acting for years but was discovered doing theatre playing Roma in "Glen Garry, Glen Ross".
Trevor Suffield plays "Stuffy" the young naive new employee thrown to the wolves. Trevor was a co-creator for the show and when the perfect fit for Stuffy could not be found, Trevor took the role himself.
Well these are all new faces, they are joined in a reoccuring role by 80's hearthrob Kelly LeBrock, as herself, a shopper in the West Hollywood grocery store.
Jon Hurwitz on the addition of Kelly LeBrock to the cast;
"Kelly's role was the only one where we had a couple choices in mind. Some people really wanted a more instantly recognizable star like Morgan Fairchild, or even Kate Jackson. But Kelly was the original actress envisioned and after meeting with her..it just clicked...and we were sold. Heck who doesn't remember her from Hard to Kill, and Woman in Red?"
Join the irresponsible and fun loving evening crew of "Foodwise Grocers" as they make life miserable for new employees, and barely tolerable for the customers unfortunate enough to not be able to shop during daylight hours at the west Hollywood grocerteria.
Baggers, 8:30pm Thursday nights this fall on Liberty Television.
